As a girl or young woman...
Girls and young women get involved in a huge range of exciting activities from outdoor challenges including climbing and caneoing to learning new skills such as first aid and circus performing. And then there’s the opportunities guiding provides for international travel, getting involved in community action projects, camping and trying out new sports.
Guiding is split into age section – Rainbows (ages 5-7) , Brownies (ages 7-10), Guides (ages 10-14) and Senior Section (ages 14-26).
As an adult volunteer...
Guiding is run by volunteers and we’re always keen to hear from anyone who’d like to help out, in any way, male or female, of any age! Whether it’s an hour or two every few months or a regular weekly commitment, there are lots of ways to volunteer and help us put girls in the lead. Do something extraordinary – volunteer with Girlguiding UK.
As a Leader you can take an active part in some of these fun and exciting activities yourself. Or if, for example, abseiling is not your cup of tea, you can simply organise activities for the girls and get pleasure from watching them enjoy it to the full.
12 hour challenge
Could you spare just 12 hours to do something for girls this year? If so, you could take part in our 12 hour challenge. There’s no set task for the challenge – you decide how to do it, and may want to help with some of the tasks suggested as a support role. Of course, if you find yourself having fun, you’re more than welcome to carry on past your 12 hours…!
Guiding changes volunteers' lives
As a volunteer you will get a great sense of satisfaction from watching the girls and young women in your unit develop their confidence and skills, as well as have lots of fun. In addition, working to improve your community both directly with the girls and possibly outside the unit on community projects will give you a huge sense of personal achievement.
As a volunteer you’ll also gain from the experience by making new friends and learning new skills such as leadership and organisational abilities that you can use at work or put on a CV.
