What is Guiding?
Offering new and exciting experiences for today’s girls and young women, Girlguiding UK is a dynamic organisation with almost 600,000 members. And over 4,000 of those are members of Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Senior Section groups in Girlguiding Cambridgeshire East!
Our learning and activity programmes are girl-led and constantly evolving to meet the needs and ambitions of our 5-26 year olds girl members. We’re modern, vital, trusted. And we’ve been that way for almost
100 years.
· We provide a unique, girl-only space
At a vital time in girls’ personal and social development, we provide a safe, inclusive space where they can be comfortable just being themselves. Girls can form close friendships, grow in self-confidence, gain new experiences – and have fun!
· We’re relevant to today’s girls and young women
Empowering girls and young women has always been our focus, but we’ve added pop concerts, peer education and affordable designer gear to the mix. Today’s young members are involved in an incredibly diverse range of activities, from girl-led community projects to volunteering in developing countries.
· We promote diversity and equality
Guiding helps girls and young women reach their potential, whatever their ability or background. Our aim is to welcome even more members and supporters – we’ve produced learning resources for our volunteers to raise awareness of diversity, and innovative girl-led projects are constantly reaching out to new communities.
· We give girls and young women a voice
As a truly girl-led organisation, we’ve always sought and acted upon the views of girls. To help make sure girls’ voices are heard outside guiding as well, we’ve conducted the most extensive surveys of girls’ and young women’s views by any organisation in recent years, representing their views to decision-makers and the public in a series of landmark reports.
