CENTENARY COUNTDOWN
I thought that I would start by introducing myself. My name is Simone Borley and I have been guiding for just over 11 years now, predominantly as a Brownie guider. I joined the County Team as Centenary Champion at the beginning of this year.

On 15 March 2008, I attended the National Briefing Day in London to find out what is going to be available to us all for our celebrations. I was just blown away by the awesome treats that are going to be in store for anyone lucky enough to be involved with Girlguiding UK.

We have an amazing itinerary lined up for us all. It starts with ‘Changing the World’ which is already on the Girlguiding UK website. There will be a full catalogue of resource information becoming available in September 2008. The Centenary celebrations end with a fantastic finale in 2010 itself.

I will be sending information to you all through the newsletter each month as well as communicating via your Division Commissioners. However, if anyone wishes to contact me direct, I will be happy to hear from you.

One of the exciting things that is happening during 2010 is our National Centenary Camp. This is taking place 31 July to 7 August 2010 at Harewood House, near Leeds. This is definitely going to be a camp with a lot of ‘wow’ factor, creating memories to last a lifetime. Harewood House is in North Yorkshire and is home of the Earl of Harewood, the Queen’s cousin. It was also the home of his mother HRH Princess Mary, The Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood, who became the first president of The Girl Guide Association in 1920.

This is a week that promises to be a very special camp, full of fantastic activities and opportunities for everyone. We’re already recruiting teams to organise and run the camp. Do you know anyone who might like to be involved in this ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity? We’re not looking for superwoman, just enthusiasm, commitment and in some cases, experience. Believe me, it’s worth applying. The full details will be on the County website or from the County Office. You can also email me for more information.

If you would like to volunteer at County level, you can join one of the County planning Teams or you may just want to volunteer for a few hours on the day. For more information, please contact me by email with the sort of thing you would like to be a part of and I will put you in contact with the group that will most suit.
