What is Guiding? In 1910, as a result of pressure from girls wanting to become the equivalent of Boy Scouts, General Sir (later Lord) Robert Baden-Powell asked his sister Agnes to form a movement for girls. He called this movement 'Girl Guides' after the brave and resourceful Corps of Guides he knew as a soldier in India. Guiding is a game with a purpose best summed up by our: Mission and Vision Statement, Girlguiding UK, as part of a worldwide Movement, enables girls and young women to fulfil their potential and to take an active and responsible role in society through its distinctive, stimulating and enjoyable programme of activities delivered by trained volunteer leaders. Our Vision is to have sufficient adult volunteer leaders to enable every girl and young woman to have the opportunity to join us. Who is Guiding for? Guiding is open to every girl or young woman - regardless of race, faith or personal circumstance. Find out more here. Did you know? What comes after Guiding? The Trefoil Guild is a non-uniformed section of Girlguiding UK, which enables men and women to maintain their links with Guiding. Contact the County Office for further information.
