Frequently Asked Questions – Girlguiding Cambs East  (June 2006)

Q Who can take part in the Nights Away Scheme?

A All members of Girlguiding Anglia from Rainbows to Senior Section – and even adults and Trefoil Guild!

Q What counts as a Night Away?

A One night (or more) spent on a recognised guiding event. This could include:

Sleepovers, holidays, camps, boating holidays, bivouacs, international trips, youth hostelling, service crew weekends…in fact, anything that is approved in the Guiding Manual.

Q How do I record my Nights Away?

A By completing the Nights Away Record Card. You can get copies of the card from:

  • The County Office; they hold an electronic copy which can be emailed to you for you to print as many copies as you want as often as you like (probably the easiest) – or a paper copy for you to photocopy – or multiple hard copies if you need.
  • Download it here
  • You can also download it from the Girlguiding Anglia Website – or ask for copies by post from the Anglia office.  (But please note that this version will have the general Anglia instructions on rather than the Cambs East instructions.)

The record card can be copied as many times as you wish to be used for everyone in your unit.

Q Can I backdate my Nights Away?

A Yes you can, they can be backdated from 1st January 2006 (sorry to all those with 30 years of camping experience; you can’t get the 200 Nights Away badge yet!)

Q Who can sign my record card?

A For members under 18, the Guider-in-Charge at the residential event should sign to confirm the number of nights away at that particular event. For over 18s, another member of staff should sign.

Q How do I order my badge(s)?

A If you or your girls have reached 1, 5, 10 or 15 Nights Away you should order the badges from the County Office by filling out the Nights Away order form and sending a unit cheque made out to Cambs East Guides for 50p per badge.  You may order them in advance to give out at the end of an event.  You can also order them direct from Anglia.

When you require a 25, 50, 75 or 100+ Nights Away badge, please send the signed record card itself plus cheque for 50p per badge to the County Office.  These may not be ordered in advance, and may take a little longer to come back to you as they have to be “verified” by an Outdoor Adviser.  Guiders cannot order these direct from Anglia.  (NB They are not available yet as we are not expecting anyone to have already notched up 25 Nights since January!)

Q Can the girls wear the badge on their uniform?

A Yes, they can wear the badge as part of their uniform or put them on their camp blanket.  We suggest that only one (the highest they have) goes on their uniform at any one time!  The superseded ones can either be transferred to their camp blanket, or go back to the unit to build up a stock, whichever you prefer.

Q After I gain a badge, do my Nights Away reset to zero?

A No, your Nights Away accumulate, so keep your record card up to date! Your record card will move with you when you change sections (e.g. move from Rainbows to Brownies) or units.  When you run out of space, just print another one and transfer the number of nights already gained to it.  (NB For Rainbows/Brownies/Guides it may be wiser for the Guider to hold the record cards!)

Q What do the badges look like?

A

1 night away badge 5 nights away badge 10 nights away badge 15 nights away badge

25 nights away badge 50 nights away badge 75 nights away badge 100 nights away badge

200 nights away badge
